This morning finds me positively ravishing, all spruced up and bushy tailed, thanks to a few meandering daydreams about the stable boy tying Mrs Jackanapes to the bed post..(sharp intake of breath)...but I digress...and there was me trying to lift this blog out of the shocking state you lot got it into, dear me I'm ashamed of you.
One thing I forgot to mention ast night that J. a superb dance teacher from down South has been up to teach the Balboa workshops and to help along with the lessons last night. The advantage of having her there is that she can work on much more specific elements of technique. Last night she worked with me on letting the movements stem from the centre of the stomach, in body energy terms, the third chakra (OK, I know you might go in for that, but I do, so hold on with me) That point is related to ourselves our identity, our self worth, and there is a real sense of when the movement stems from that point the dance move stems from intention rather than action, you believe it into being, and is a wonderful feeling. You see, dance is more than just a good exercise for me, its about being alive, about living in the instant of the dance beat.
The added benefit is when you dance with a partner, male or female (both are good but very different, funnily enough...). With a partner you constantly communicate, but never verbally, always in position pressure timing, and of course the most important, tuning into them. It is a metaphor for life.
I leave you with a snippet from the Quaker visionary, George Fox (not a quote but close enough):- "The prophets say this, and the apostles say that, but what canst thou say?" In todays language, don't let other people live your life, it is for you to live.
Carpe diem, my lovelies!!!
